Following a mass shooting in a crowded movie theater in Aurora, Colo., early this morning that left 12 people dead and close to 50 people injured, according to the Associated Press, The Salvation Army stands ready to serve.

At this time, the local police department has control of the scene and is requesting assistance as deemed necessary. The Colorado mental health response team was called in.

According to an emergency disaster services representative from the Intermountain Division, The Salvation Army has a canteen on standby to lend physical and emotional support to emergency personnel and victims. A letter of condolence and information about services the Army can provide was sent to the local police and fire chiefs.

At this time, The Salvation Army prays for the people of Aurora.
