My story

As far back as I can remember there was Home League! What did it mean to me at age 7? Tuesday nights with my dad, Home League sponsored suppers and, best of all, strawberry festivals! Over the years my perceptions changed, depending on what corps I attended—but always it was for the “older” ladies—certainly not for me!

In 1996 my family—with an 8th grader and 12th grader and my mom, age 89—moved to Texas. I decided to take my mom to Home League at Dallas Temple. It was held at noon on Wednesday so DHQ staff could attend on their lunch hour. I took my mom but didn’t stay.

Then an officer friend asked me to do a worship program for her. Wow—a program at Dallas Temple! There I was at age 50 still thinking Home League was for the “older” ladies. I decided I’d better attend and see for myself what really went on at Home League. I did, and I liked what I saw. There I saw different generations relating through the program of worship, education, fellowship and service—something for everyone.

Now my husband and I live in Salt Lake City—our fourth territory for service. God brings great opportunities and great adventures! I still attend Home League—now Women’ Services—where I am worship chairman. The Salt Lake City Home League is an eclectic group with one thing in common—love for the Lord.

This reminds me of the Gowans and Larsson song, “We’re all seeking the same Savior.” This is what Women’s Ministries is about—it is a means to bring women together for a common purpose through a varied ministry.
