Salvation Army initiates campaign to ease cost-of-living burden among working poor.

Former Mayor of Los Angeles and Honorary Chair of the “Operation Feed Our Families” campaign, the Honorable Richard Riordan assisted The Salvation Army’s new Divisional Commander, Major Victor Leslie, in initiating the organization’s new campaign aimed at easing the cost-of-living burden among the region’s working poor.

Responding to the dramatic increase in requests for assistance at many local food pantries coupled with the reality that several of its pantries are being depleted, The Salvation Army, via “Operation Feed Our Families,” aims to raise funds and public awareness, and collect select food items for distribution during the coming months.

After a brief press conference, Riordan and Leslie joined Salvation Army staff and volunteers to distribute food to hundreds of recipients.

Wendy Burch, chair of the Good News Foundation, an organization of civic-minded professional women journalists, spoke during the press conference. “Our foundation wholeheartedly supports all the good work The Salvation Army performs day in and day out throughout Southern California,” she said.
