The 2006 Online Red Kettle campaign brought in nearly $500,000 in internet donations this past Christmas season, more than $180,000 of that total raised in the West. “We’re very pleased with the strides The Salvation Army is making in the internet fundraising and marketing arena,” says Major Victor R. Doughty, assistant secretary for business administration, “and so grateful for the excellent work of our online bellringers—and donors—here in the West.”

To help acknowledge some of these outstanding efforts, the Western Territorial Community Relations and Development Department is happy to announce the winners of the West’s advisory organization group kettle contest.

The top group kettle award for a large-sized advisory organization goes to the Honolulu Metropolitan Advisory Board. The Denver Metropolitan Advisory Board’s kettle was not only the highest-earning group kettle for a medium-sized board, but also the top kettle in the nation, bringing in just under $20,000. Their board treasurer Jim Cummings and board chair Susan Tucker had the first place and second place personal kettles in the nation, respectively. And the San Francisco Harbor Light Advisory Council takes the prize for the top-earning group kettle for a small-sized advisory organization.

Each board/council may now choose one member to receive a free trip to the National Advisory Organizations/National Community Relations and Development Conference in Dallas in April. The free trip includes reimbursement of airfare, hotel accommodations, and conference registration costs—up to a total of $1,500.

A number of departments at Western Territorial Headquarters also made significant contributions to the Online Red Kettle campaign. The “Risk Management Ringers” raised more than $8,500. “Legally Appealing” followed with almost $5,000. And Human Resources brought in $2,100.

“We thank all of our online bellringers and supporters for their good work on behalf of the families and individuals who turn to us for assistance every day of the year,” says Major Doughty. “It’s just one more way for people to help us keep our promise of ‘Doing the Most Good.’”
