Burlington Coat Factory and Salvation Army join forces to keep people warm.

San Diego Chargers Shawne Merriman knows it gets cold during the night and early morning hours in San Diego. That’s why the football star is the spokesperson for Burlington Coat Factory’s One Warm Coat Drive, partnering with The Salvation Army to help keep those in need warm this winter.

For every gently used coat donated at a Burlington Coat factory nationwide, Burlington will offer a discount on a new purchase. The Salvation Army will give the coats to those who need them most: impoverished children in the backcountry, seniors cutting back on heating costs to buy food, and the homeless. The One Warm Coat Drive runs through Nov. 11.

Merriman was homeless himself as a youth, and understands what it means to be coatless.

“I’m in a position today in my professional career where I’m fortunate enough to be able to give back to others—but I can’t reach everyone on my own,” he said. “Through Burlington Coat Factory’s One Warm Coat Drive, donations will reach agencies all across the United States, and together we can make a difference. A single coat can mean a warmer winter for someone in need—just like it did for me.”
