NW Women ‘Find’ Needs

The goal at the three Women’s Outreach Symposiums held in Edmonds and Pasco, Wash., and Helena, Mont., was to discover the felt needs of women today. In small groups, they brainstormed about how to program for those needs–all the while keeping in mind their fundamental purpose of providing for women’s real need: their need for a Savior.

Lt. Colonel Janice Buchanan shared three leadership models: local community-based leadership for Home League and focus groups; wide-area based leadership in which several neighboring corps may benefit from pooling resources to help develop local corps focus groups, and finally, corps-based leadership, making the most of what you have.

All three symposiums were well received by corps officers, local leaders, and potential leaders. “…We each went away feeling empowered rather than burdened,” stated Captain Sheila Bradley, Seattle Temple Corps. “I thought our time was well spent and we were given some good tools as well as encouragement to go on with.” The two ladies who came with Bradley were able to “buy into” the dream for the future. For some time no interest had been shown in seminar type meetings, but “I now have a couple of dreamers” she said, “to partner with me in realizing something for the future.”
