Sacramento ARC opens family thrift store in Citrus Heights, Calif.

In January, the Sacramento ARC opened a new thrift store in the city of Citrus Heights, Calif. Citrus Heights City Council Member Jeannie Bruins and City Manager Henry Tingle attended the ribbon cutting ceremony along with Major Ron Strickland, ARC commander and Major Eda Hokom, Del Oro divisional commander. Bruins provided warm words of welcome to The Salvation Army.

The new store encompasses 24,600 square feet with 19,000 square feet devoted to the sales area. The facility, a former World’s Gym, underwent extensive renovations. A Del Oro Divisional Emergency Services canteen provided coffee, doughnuts, punch and hot dogs during the three-day opening. The evening before the grand opening, a by-invitation-only “sneak peak” event allowed advisory board and advisory council members, major donors, Salvation Army officers, soldiers, adherents, and other friends to view the store before the initial rush of customers. Tony Coz, Sacramento ARC kitchen supervisor, provided a buffet for the 65 people who attended.

Sacramento ARC administrators, Captains Grady and Julie Brown, reported that the first three days brought a high sales volume and large numbers of customers. Many customers commented that they had anxiously awaited the opening of a Salvation Army thrift store in the area.
