Commissioner John Busby, national commander of The Salvation Army, announced that Edsel B. Ford II has been elected chairman of the National Advisory Board (NAB).

Ford assumed leadership of the board when previous chairman Donald Fites turned over the gavel of responsibility.

Ford has been elected to a three-year term as chairman effective January 2002. As the newly elected chairman, Ford will be responsible to provide leadership and direction for the 42-member National Advisory Board.

The NAB provides leadership, planning and direction for Army services, programs, and business operations throughout the U.S. It also sponsors the National Advisory Organizations Conference, a training seminar for local board members throughout the U.S.

Ford’s career with Ford Motor Company spans more than 25 years. He was elected to the board in 1988, and has been very active in company affairs and corporate relations, and is a leader of numerous philanthropic organizations.

“It is an honor to receive this appointment,” said Ford. “I have worked with several venerable organizations during my career, and I am pleased to have this opportunity to work with The Salvation Army and lead the board in accomplishing its commitment to service.”
