Mid-Willamette Kroc Center receives one million dollar boost

The Meyer Memorial Trust recently awarded The Salvation Army $1,000,000 for the development of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of the Mid-Willamette Valley to be built in Salem, Oregon. This award brings the Kroc Center capital campaign closer to the required goal of $8 million in local support, which will initiate releasing the $56 million dollar grant into Oregon’s economy.
The Mid-Willamette Valley/Salem Kroc Center is designed to attract people throughout the state, bringing unprecedented education, athletics, recreation, and the arts to an estimated 300,000 people a year. The facility will provide an array of expanded services including a fitness center, a performing arts area, adult education, competition and leisure swimming pools, sports leagues and teams, after-school programs, a commercial kitchen and much more.
The late Fred G. Meyer, who built the chain of retail stores bearing his name throughout the Pacific Northwest, established the Meyer Memorial Trust. Mr. Meyer died in 1978 at the age of 92. The trust, established by his will, began operating in 1982. It awards grants in arts and humanities, education, health, social welfare, community development, and environmental conservation and restoration.
