LensCrafters gives gift of sight

Fifteen men at the Anchorage Adult Rehabilitation Program (ARP) are seeing things more clearly thanks to the generosity of LensCrafters, who recently donated free eye exams and glasses as part of the nationwide Hometown Day program, in which participating optometrists and ophthalmologists across North America provide free services to those in need in their local communities. For several men, this was a new experience as they tried on their first pair of glasses!

LensCrafters employees arrived early to open the store so they could give special attention to each man, adjusting their glasses to fit just right and patiently answering questions. As each one tried on their new glasses, a transformation took place, with plenty of smiles and joking between the men about their new looks. But as the men enjoyed muffins and juice, the most frequent conversation overheard was the amazement about how much better they could see.

According to Major Katherine Hodder-Reed, who currently oversees the ARP ministry, “This was such a wonderful gift to the men this Christmas—the gift of being able to see all things more clearly—in sight and life.” This was a gift they will not soon forget.

With a warm handshake and many expressions of heartfelt thanks, the men left the store, walking a bit taller than when they arrived.
