Salvation Army auditors volunteer a day of service

Each year employees of Deloitte—The Salvation Army’s outside auditing firm—volunteer one day of service on June 5—IMPACT Day—in support of a non-profit organization; the program is in its 10th year. The employees of this large globally connected company volunteer for a variety of projects. This year, more than 40,000 Deloitte personnel worked on over 700 volunteer projects in 70 cities, providing non-profits with everything from pro bono professional services to manual labor related to beautification and maintenance.

In Southern California, one of their groups worked with The Salvation Army Los Angeles Red Shield—completely painting the exterior of their building and helping out in various other ways there.

During National Volunteer Week in April 2008, President George W. Bush recognized Deloitte for its leadership and commitment to workplace volunteering. Bush personally awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Barry Salzberg, chief executive officer of Deloitte LLP, in honor of the organization’s achievement in community involvement.

Acknowledging the award, Salzberg said: “Deloitte is committed to making a difference in our communities and the greatest way we can do that is by using our skills and knowledge to help strengthen nonprofit organizations. This is really a testament to our people who are making a social impact all across the country.”
