Kroc to be inducted into the Calif. Hall of Fame

The late Joan Kroc, well-known philanthropist and friend of The Salvation Army, will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame on December 1, 2009, at the California Museum in Sacramento, along with 12 other Californians of note. All living inductees and family of posthumous inductees will participate in the presentation of the Spirit of California medals by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver.

Conceived by Shriver, the California Hall of Fame was established in 2006 at the California Museum for History, Women and the Arts to honor individuals and families who embody California’s innovative spirit and have made their mark on history. The museum features artifacts and mementos loaned by inductees and their families; this exhibit is available year-round.

Kroc is especially noted for her bequest of $1.6 billion to The Salvation Army for the construction of Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers throughout the United States. The West has opened four centers thus far: San Diego and San Francisco, Calif., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Salem, Oregon. Three more are slated to open in the future: Honolulu, Hawaii, Long Beach, Calif., and Phoenix, Ariz.
