International Doctrine Council meets in the U.S.

Assembly discusses Army’s theological issues.

Members of The Salvation Army’s International Doctrine Council recently gathered for deliberations at National Headquarters in Alexandria, Va., under the leadership of the council’s chairperson, Commissioner William Francis (territorial commander, Canada and Bermuda Territory).

The nine-member doctrine council advises Salvation Army leadership, councils, and commissions on doctrinal and theological issues, including how they can be taught throughout the world. At this meeting, the council focused on its dialogue with the World Methodist Council and plans for the Theology and Ethics Symposium to be held in London in 2010, along with ongoing agenda items.

Commissioner Christine MacMillan (International Headquarters) and Dr. James Read (Canada and Bermuda Territory) joined the council for discussion on how the recently formed International Social Justice Commission and the International Doctrine Council can mutually support and inform each other’s mandate.

The International Doctrine Council is grateful for prayerful support from Salvationists as the council seeks to fulfill its role and mission.
