Intermountain features spy catcher, raises New Hope funds

The Intermountain Division held a night of espionage and intrigue, secrets and suspense and spies and spymasters at the Broadmoor Hotel recently. The Salvation Army Gala 2005: SpyMaster, SpyCatcher! was the Army’s first annual gala in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and featured former FBI and CIA director Judge William Webster.

The evening was a benefit for The New Hope Center, The Salvation Army’s homeless shelter on South Sierra Madre Street.

Lon Matejczyk, honorary gala chairman and master of ceremonies Nina Sparano of KRDO News 13 welcomed the 205 guests and shared what an essential service The New Hope Center is in the Colorado Springs community.

“One year ago The Salvation Army undertook operation of the center,” said Matejczyk; “In that time, the shelter has been a refuge for over 3,000 men, women and children.”

Sparano added, “But the goal of New Hope is not just to shelter those most in need, but to help people end the cycle of homelessness.”

Attendees included “Boris and Natasha” (AKA Bob and Joyce Robinson), Craig and Penny Whitney, Bruce and Anne Shepard, and Tim Leigh, whose Hoff & Leigh Real Estate was presenting sponsor for the evening. Classic Homes, Nunn Construction, Colorado Springs Utilities, KRDO News 13 and Lon Matejczyk and The Colorado Springs Business Journal also helped sponsor the event, which netted over $50,000 for The New Hope Center.
