During the recent Latino Rally at the Los Angeles Central Corps, The Salvation Army Biblical Institute for Theological Education (IBET) celebrated its fourth annual graduation. Founded in 2000, IBET serves the Army as a school of higher education for Latino officers and soldiers, with a main campus in Santa Ana, Calif., and an extension in Hollywood.

During the graduation, Major Paul Seiler, Southern California divisional commander, recognized the accomplishments of 23 individuals. He presented 3 Diplomas in Biblical Studies, 16 Certificates in Biblical Studies and 4 certificates of work completed.

Divisional leaders, officers, soldiers and friends of The Salvation Army from various Hispanic corps in Southern California enjoyed an evening of praise and testimony, along with the participation of the Santa Ana band. The audience was challenged to make a real impact in the community through increased biblical knowledge and development as leaders.

Ana Básquez, a soldier at Santa Ana Temple, shared her testimony, expressing how as a result of her studies at IBET she has a greater understanding of biblical truths, has grown spiritually, and is better equipped for her youth ministry at the corps.

The challenge of IBET is to enable students to respond to the community needs in an efficient way and to be prepared to preach and teach biblical principles. Those who want to prepare for leadership and Christian ministry are encouraged to take advantage of this resource. The next classes begin on April 4 in Hollywood and on April 6 in Santa Ana.
