After 42 years of dedicated service, Lt. Colonel Evelyn J. Hunter, Secretary for Business Administration, has entered the ranks of the honorably retired.

Evelyn made her initial appearance on August 12, 1935, in Marion, Ohio. She was born into the family of John and Evelyn (Parsons) Hunter, then adjutants in charge of Salvation Army work in Marion, and her brother, Jack.

The following year, the family moved to New England. She grew up in Connecticut and Massachusetts, graduating from high school in New London, Conn.

In 1953 the family moved to San Bernardino, Calif. During those years she participated actively in the corps programs, and worked at the air base before accepting the call of God in her life. She moved to Los Angeles and was accepted into the Courageous Session, being commissioned in 1958.

Evelyn held corps appointments in Idaho, California, Colorado, Montana and Washington. While at the San Diego Door of Hope, she returned to school and in 1969 received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State College, followed in 1971 by a Master’s in Social Work. In 1976 she moved to the School for Officer’s Training as the Education Secretary and in 1979 she was appointed as assistant social service secretary with responsibility for women’s and children’s services.

Appointments followed as divisional and youth secretary to the Alaska Division and divisional secretary to the Southern California Division.

After preparation to become territorial legal secretary she moved to that appointment in 1985, and in 1994 was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. In 1995 she became commander for the Northwest Division.

In retirement she will live at 838 Camino De Oro, San Jacinto CA 92583.
