💭 Impact: Salvation Army film 'La Deuda' availa 💭 Impact: Salvation Army film 'La Deuda' available soon on HBO
.
A short film by Share Change, entitled "La Deuda," was acquired for distribution by @hbo. The Spanish-language film will appear on all HBO streaming services, including @hbomax, after making its premiere on @hbolatino Feb. 1 at 5:50 p.m. PST.
.
La Deuda was nominated for the HBO Iber-American Short Film Award at the Miami International Film Festival in March 2020, but the festival was canceled mid-way through the event due to COVID-19 safety guidelines.
.
“We want to showcase the continued power of Jesus’ parables and narrative storytelling to teach the universal truths we all need to understand,” said Lt. Colonel Lisa Smith, Secretary for Program in The Salvation Army Western Territory.
.
La Deuda is loosely based on Jesus’ Parable of the Ungrateful Servant found in Matthew 18: 21-35. Filmed on location in Mexico, La Deuda is a coming-of-age tale, following a young boy in his quest to save the life of his beloved pet goat.
.
Set a reminder now to watch the film Feb. 1, see more about it at the link in our bio, and download a companion Bible study in English or Spanish.
🙏 Spirituality: How to renew your understanding 🙏 Spirituality: How to renew your understanding of prayer
.
“There is room for your whole self in prayer. You can bring your whole body to this altar, this place where you meet with God with words or with wordless knowing. You don’t need to pretend you aren’t angry, that you aren’t cynical or afraid, that you aren’t feeling a bit hopeless or uncomfortable or envious or tired. That’s how a lot of the Psalms came to be, after all. I believe that Scripture gives us a more fulsome and complete view of prayer than we were perhaps taught and so I wanted this book to show all of them.”

💭 Impact: Unexpected food donation feeds hundre 💭 Impact: Unexpected food donation feeds hundreds in New Mexico
.
On November 5, Farmington (New Mexico) Corps Officer Major Tammy Ray received a phone call she didn’t expect. It was a representative from Aramark, a global food distributor that had been contracted with the San Juan Detention Center for both the adult and juvenile facilities. They were no longer working with the detention facilities and had a surplus of food they needed to donate. Would she be willing to receive it at her location?
.
Later, three full truckloads of bulk foods arrived from Aramark in excess of 10,000 pounds, which was about three weeks worth of food for the detention centers. The total value of the food was more than $28,000.
.
“We knew the donation was coming that day, but you just can’t visualize the depth of it all until it comes,” Ray said. “I mean, there were 50 pound bags of pudding and cake mix! We had no storage space, so we had to move it all quickly.”
.
The result? Hundreds in the community were fed, including members of the Navajo Nation.

💭 Impact: Record giving surges alongside need
.
In a year when the need was so great and families across the country were challenged financially, it seemed inevitable that donations would plummet and fundraisers would be unable to meet the need.
.
But the opposite has proven true, with corps across the Western Territory seeing record levels of giving this past year.
.
“It’s just absolutely heart-warming and simply amazing,” said Debbie Rossi, Executive Director of Development for @salvationarmywest. “Better than any of us ever anticipated.”

On Dec. 26, 2020, Pastor Jim was promoted to Glory after battling COVID-19. He put his life on the line to serve the most vulnerable in the midst of a global crisis and will be remembered as a faithful soldier and servant.

💭 Impact: International Salvation Army leader a 💭 Impact: International Salvation Army leader asks ‘What’s next?’
.
“Our challenges will overwhelm us if we can't approach God with anticipation...Ask God, what's next for you, for your family, for The Salvation Army? Ask the question, knowing that God is greater than pandemics, economic downturns, and yes, even death. Ask him what's next. The one who redeems the desert places, the one who replenishes the soul, the one heals the brokenhearted.”
