High Peak Camp: opportunities to be good stewards

We are very privileged in the Intermountain Division to have such a lovely location for our camp in the mountains of Estes Park, Colorado. The Salvation Army purchased the property in the late 1980s when it was still called the Double JK Ranch. Since that date, we have made many improvements to the site.

As you drive in on the dirt road, Longs Peak towers above at over 14,000 feet; it is one of the most impressive sights you will see at our camp. On my first visit, nearly ten years ago, I was struck by God’s wonderful creation, which he has given us to enjoy. In all, the property is around 169 acres and stretches in all directions. We have 48 buildings, which include Longs Peak Inn and all of our cabins and out buildings.

This last summer season we had over 600 kids come and enjoy our camp in this wonderful setting. We have so much work to do as we try to battle the severe elements that take a toll on the structures, which require much ongoing maintenance and care.

Our prayer in the Intermountain youth department is not only to grow our camp in a physical way (with new and improved buildings and facilities), but that we can more importantly grow people (young and old), to enjoy God’s creation and understand that we are blessed people to have such a place. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of the property and far more importantly, to be good stewards of the kids and adults that God sends our way.
