Generous outpouring provides a Christmas wonder.

Picture this: Two weeks before Christmas and The Salvation Army Guam’s Family Services Center has only received 200 gifts for distribution to children in the community. This grim situation brightened when the local newspaper—the Pacific Daily News—ran a front-page story displaying the center’s nearly empty Toy Shop.

The article touched people’s hearts and launched them into action. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce Guam donated $40,000 worth of toys, with other businesses, community clubs and individuals following suit. Soon the warehouse was filled with toys for children of all ages.

The generosity continued with donations of food—enough to fill boxes for over 1,400 people.

Five hundred volunteer bell ringers made certain that the 2009 Red Kettle Campaign was successful with total donations reaching an all-time high.

Even during tough economic times, the actions of the Guam citizens confirm that Christmas miracles do still exist.
