Children of all ages performed at the rededication of the El Cajon Corps Community Center, near San Diego, Calif. The program emphasized the corps’ growth and potential in the community to reach out to children through music.

“Our fine arts program is having a terrific impact on children, and we plan on expanding our efforts to reach even more children,” said Captain Glen Madsen, corps officer, who also instructs in music for the children after school.

Commissioner Peter H. Chang, territorial commander, challenged the members of the corps to reach out and minister to people.

“This is a beautiful building, but this newly renovated structure will mean nothing unless it can be filled with people who need to know the Lord and serve him,” he told the more than 300 soldiers, officers and supporters who were celebrating the completion of the building’s renovation.

Shirley Green, a member since its inception in 1976, said, “We started off with only 13 people 20 years ago, six of whom were members of my own family. God has truly blessed our corps with terrific growth,” she said.

Lt. Colonel Donald Sather, divisional commander, who presided over the celebration, was equally impressed with the corps’ vitality and commitment to serving the community. Captains Glen and Linda Madsen are leading the charge for continuing expansion, and have expressed feelings of thankfulness for God’s goodness and leadership

“We were delighted to participate,” said Commissioner Chang, “in an event that displayed a wonderful commitment by both the members of the corps and the community to reaching out to people in need. My wife and I could not be more pleased with what we observed.”
