Glendale dedicates new Silvercrest residence

The Southern California Division recently dedicated its new 75-unit Glendale Silvercrest residence.

Majors Floyd and Lola Bacon, Glendale corps officers, hosted Territorial Leaders Commissioners David and Doreen Edwards and Divisional Leaders Lt. Colonels Alfred and Sherryl Van Cleef at the dedication held in the chapel at the Glendale Corps and Community Center.

Glendale is the Army’s eighth senior residence in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Funding for the $10.5 million facility was provided by the Housing Authority of the City of Glendale, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and The Salvation Army. As with all Silvercrest residences, it will provide affordable housing, support services, recreational and spiritual programs for low-to-moderate income seniors.

More than 2,000 seniors filled out applications, hoping to live in the beautiful new facility, located adjacent to the Glendale Corps Community Center. Two hundred names were drawn using a lottery system and after thorough interviews were conducted, 73 new residents were selected based on need. The residence is slated to open the end of March.
