General Shaw Clifton and Commissioner Helen Clifton led the USA Eastern Territory’s 2009 camp meeting at Old Orchard Beach, Maine, which included a special presentation to renowned vocal soloist 100-year-old George Beverly Shea. Shea appeared via video from Winchester, Ontario, Canada, and told how his father accepted Christ at age 19 after hearing a preacher who had come to the Lord through The Salvation Army.

Jeff Schultz, Media Ministries Department Director, was in Ontario and presented the singer with The Salvation Army’s Order of Distinguished Auxiliary Service Award.

“This [award] is quite special for me,” Shea said.

The Eastern Territory welcomed the international leaders with a parade of flag bearers and children dressed to represent nations where the Cliftons have served. The General brought greetings from the 118 countries where the Army is at work. He spoke about “holy courage” on Friday, referring to the story of David and Goliath, and ministered to a large crowd on Sunday morning with a Bible message based on the work of the Holy Spirit as recorded in John 20. He gave the closing message on Sunday evening.
