Recently, more than 25 employees from the Riverside County ARC production center wore white ribbons and put them on their cars to show their support for the Army’s Campaign against Pornography. Lt. Grady Brown, ARC administrator, passed more than 100 white ribbons to employees. He reported, “The employees enthusiastically endorsed the campaign. They were happy to do more than work for the Army, but also to work hand in hand on issues like this. We are now working to take this issue to our community, and hope to get their support.”

ARMY FRIENDS HONORED

Matt Fong, former treasurer of the State of California, was the guest speaker at the recent San Francisco Chinatown Corps’ Advisory Council Annual Civic Meeting/Banquet (Corps Officers Majors Robin and Tereasa Hu). State Commissioner Mae C. Woo was presented the “Excellence in Service” Award, and longtime Advisory Council member Alfred Gee received the “Others” Award.

AZUSA HONORS ANGEL

Azusa Pacific University recently celebrated their centennial. Debra Lyne Angel, daughter of Majors Ken and Joan Angel (R), was one of 100 graduates to receive a trophy of accommodations at the Alumni brunch. Debra served as student body president her graduation year, 1982. She was honored as president of her highly respected and fast-growing consulting firm that holds seminars across America and Australia in career development. Angel has co-authored No One Is Unemployable, plus a series of career development workbooks, now translated into Spanish.

FAMILY AFFAIR

Family and friends recently celebrated the dedication of Donald Dean Madsen III at El Sobrante/Richmond, Calif., Corps. Proud mother and father, Don and Linda Madsen, shared this important moment with their extended family and the child’s godparents. Captain Lanny French, commanding officer, was pleased to accept baby Donald as the newest member of the corps cradle roll.

“TOUCHING YESTERDAY, TODAY”

We hear from Major James Bryden, director, that the International Heritage Centre is now relocated in the old IHQ headquarters at 101 Victoria Street. General John Gowans did the honors, “bringing cheer, wit and inspiration to all he met as well as showing great enthusiasm for our collection.” The Heritage Centre was established in 1988, bringing museum and archive services together. It responds to inquiries from the UK Territory as well as all parts of the globe. Be sure to visit it when you are in London.

 


A Loss to Us All


Officers and employees at territorial headquarters were saddened recently to learn that Fred Ehrl, a well-known employee, had suffered a fatal heart attack.

Fred was born in Mittweida, Saxonia, Germany, and came to this country in 1960. After a successful career in the aerospace industry, he joined his wife, Elisabeth, working at the Conference Center, first as an on-call employee. Then, for five years he served as the genial host at the coffee room, or “Fred’s Place,” where he went out of his way to see that everything moved smoothly. All were greeted cheerfully with concern for our families, weather and news reports, and stock market advice. Newcomers and visitors soon joined his list of friends.

His loss touches all our hearts as we offer our deepest sympathy to Elisabeth, their daughters Nicole and Jamie, and son Fred. Messages of condolence may be sent to Mrs. Elisabeth Ehrl, 29004 Doverridge Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes CA 90275.
