Training local officers
Thirty San Fernando Valley Corps, Calif., local officers attended a one-day seminar presented by Major Elicio Marquez, territorial multicultural secretary, and Major Darlan Marquez, associate multicultural ministries secretary. According to Captain Jose Martinez, San Fernando Valley Corps officer, the seminar—which was conducted in Spanish—encouraged the attendees in their commitment to local officership and their call to Salvation Army service.

Denver honors board members
The Metro Denver, Colo., advisory board honored Olivia Armijo-Killough as a member emeritus for her long-term commitment to the board. In addition, board member Jim Cummings was recognized for leading the nation in online Red Kettle individual donations—the fourth consecutive year that he has done so. Mike Love is advisory board chair.

San Diego seniors in the act
Seniors are discovering their “inner actor” at the San Diego Ray and Joan Kroc Center in a class taught by Holly Ritter, a former professional actress. The students, mostly over age 55, focus on studying and performing actual scenes during the three-hour session. For many, the class allows them to become more comfortable with themselves in front of others, as well as providing them with a healthy way to channel their emotions.

Women’ Ministries makes a difference
Major Jonnette Mulch, Hawaiian and Pacific Islands women’s ministries secretary, reports the Leeward Corps, Oahu, ministers not only to the Home League women, but also to women who are part of the MAHI group. These are people who have come from Micronesia and are assimilating into the Hawaiian Islands. They enjoy attending meetings at the Army as it helps them understand the new culture and to make friends. Major Phil and Captain Debbie Lum are Leeward corps officers.

SATERN offers amateur radio license course
The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, Calif., offered a one-day amateur radio licensing course recently. The course, taught by SATERN member Paul Hager, covered the Federal Communications Commission technician license test. “This is the entry level license,” stated Hager, “and required only passing the written test at the end of the course. Anyone with this license can join SATERN as we help The Salvation Army be of service during times of disaster.” For more information go to www.satern.net.
