Scott celebrates 100
Concord, Calif., soldier Marjorie Scott turned 100 on December 5, 2008 and was honored with a birthday cake and celebration a few days later at the corps, after the Sunday service. “Marge attended the Oakland Citadel for nearly 70 years prior to its move to Concord, and she is still very active in the corps, attending Sunday school and worship as well as Home League, not to mention nearly every special event we hold,” said Corps Officer Major Clay Gardner. “ She even rings bells for us now again at Christmas time.” God bless you, Marjorie, and many happy returns!

Army active in Tucson
The Army continues to grow in the Southwest Division: the Tuscon Amphi Corps, Ariz., recently enrolled 11 senior soldiers and two adherents, and commissioned eight local officers. Captains David and Erin Kauffman are corps officers. During the Christmas holidays, 30 Hummers from a local dealership arrived at the Army’s toy distribution center with 500 toys. “This was the first of their annual toy drives for The Salvation Army,” said Major Estelle Clack, special services director. “We thank God for the generosity of the general pubic. Tucson bell ringers included Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and Tucson Mayor Walkup.

Golden State honors Paces
The Golden State Division kicked off its 2008 Red Kettle Campaign with a holiday luncheon at the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, honoring National Salvation Army Advisory Board Chairman Robert J. Pace and his wife Jennifer. Sponsorships and donations totaled more than $200,000, a record for the event. Key sponsors include The Bogart Foundation, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Howard and Gretchen Leach and Rodan + Fields Dermatologists. “The Paces have been tireless in their support for the Army and its programs,” said Major Joe Posillico, divisional commander. “Rob was a member of San Francisco’s Advisory Board, and was one of the driving forces behind making the dream of The Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center a reality.”

Finley earns masters
Captain William Finley, Ventura, Calif., corps officer, recently earned a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, with honors, from Regis University. Congratulations, Captain!
