United praise attracts youth
The Tacoma (Wash.) Citadel Corps recently attracted nearly 100 young people from six corps in the Puget Sound area for a night of worship and fellowship, organized by Raven Gillies. The evening’s music included song, timbrel, drum and drama performances by youth from the Puyallup, Renton, Bellevue, Olympia, Seattle White Center and Tacoma corps. Majors Wesley and Ruth Sundin are Tacoma corps officers. Captain Terry Masango, Renton corps officer, gave a devotion that led 10 youth to be saved at the altar. A united worship team, led by Catie Reid, finished the night with a “victory praise jam.”

Army assists in Del Oro fires
Salvation Army teams from Oroville and Chico, Calif., assisted evacuees and disaster relief workers in response to the Butte County fire. Near record-breaking heat furthered the need for SA response; cooling centers were set up at corps in Chico, Oroville, Reno, Fairfield and Sacramento. In an effort to help prevent heat exhaustion, mobilized Army units went to known homeless camps in these areas to distribute water and tell residents of the cooling centers.

“All About Kids” a hit
Hundreds of kids served by the Army in Portland, Ore., rooted for the home team—the Portland Beavers—as they took on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox during The Salvation Army’s 14th annual “All About Kids” benefit at PGE Park. “This is a crucial event for our children’s services programs,” said Jack Cain, senior advisor of the Beavers and long-time TSA board member. Funds raised from the event will support eight local corps and service programs. Fred Meyer Stores and Hoffman Construction were title sponsors, along with “grand slam” sponsor Kuni Automotive.
