Exciting events in Roseburg
Major Mick Souders, Roseburg, Ore., corps officer, recently enrolled senior soldier Carol Goss, as well as five new junior soldiers: Mackenzie Green, Makayla Green, Colleen Neper, Kyrstin Gould, and Shelby Gould. Goss and Tammy Mobly lead an active Sunbeam troop and Moonbean troop; Cheryl and Kelsey Wood are leaders of Cub Scout Pack 119 and a new Boy Scout Troop 119, starting out with 16 boys. “The boys are famous for their flag ceremony, and are often invited to events to start things off,” said Souders. “They have also won numerous trophies in the Veteran’s Day parades over the past three years. Several of the Webelos recently participated in the “cross-over ceremony” with a special appearance by Chief Akela (aka Major Mick Souders), who promoted them to Boy Scouts. It was an exciting evening with about 64 family members present.

Clovis on the go
The Clovis, Calif., corps recently hosted a “soup, soap, and salvation” luncheon—the inaugural meeting of the new Community Partners (CP) program—attended by representatives of 47 organizations. Corps Captains Xia and Sia Xiong welcomed and prayed for those present. Hap Wood, advisory council chair, along with the rest of the advisory council and volunteers, hosted the luncheon. “The purpose of the Community Partner Program is to increase the Army’s visibility and increase community communications,” said Wood. Pam Parker, is the corps’ newest advisory council member and new council secretary.

Ransoms share talents with Red Shield
Giving takes different forms, and at the Denver, Colo., Red Shield one family gave its musical talent to entertain day camp children. Captain Ron McKinney, Red Shield administrator, reports: “The Ransom family—mom Diedre and children Amanda, Amelia and Michael—had recently been on a tour of the Red Shield, and returned to perform. They and the children had such a great time, they returned and provided refreshments and DVDs for the children as they gave an encore presentation.”

Freeman earns MA
Captain Daniel Freeman, Boise, Ida., corps officer and Treasure Valley Coordinator, has recently been awarded a Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Calif.; Freeman participated in commencement ceremonies in June. Congratulations, Captain!

Future sessions of cadets
Please pray for the cadets of future training college sessions, whose members are as yet unknown except to God. The sessional name in 2009 is Ambassadors of Holiness; in 2010 it will be Friends of Christ; in 2011 Proclaimers of the Resurrection; and in 2012 Disciples of the Cross.
