Blessings for babies
Recently, the Hillsboro and Beaverton Corps, Ore., joined together to sponsor a baby shower for mothers who have come through the Hillsboro Family Services office. Captain Margarita Rodriguez and Linda Marie Ward of Hillsboro were in charge of the shower for the 10 women who attended. Captain Jolene Hodder was the special guest for the event. The Hillsboro Women’s Ministries and focus group women assisted, and women from the Beaverton Corps provided the games for the evening. The shower was well received, and was a blessing to the women of honor as well as to the corps ladies.

Bibles for beneficiaries
During a Wednesday night chapel service at the Long Beach ARC, Southern California Divisional Commander Lt Colonel Alfred Van Cleef donated 6,000 Bibles that will be distributed to the beneficiaries in all 25 Adult Rehabilitation Centers throughout the territory, reports Captain Dennis Earnhardt, Long Beach ARC administrator. “It is wonderful to know that Lt. Colonel Van Cleef and ARC Commander Major Ron Strickland are doing their best to share the gospel right here in the Western Territory.”

Del Oro trains leaders
Sarah Bentley reports the Del Oro Division recently held a local officer (leadership) training day attended by 60 local officers and those interested in local officership. “It was an exciting event—Divisional Commander Major Eda Hokom shared the territory’s six strategic priorities in her keynote, and we covered the fundamentals and expectations for spiritual leadership as a local officer.” During the day, breakout groups met to discuss specific LO roles, youth, music, adult and women’s ministries. Commissioner Ken Hood reminded the group about the importance and purpose of the corps council and the pastoral care (census) board.
In April, a local officers forum is slated with special guests Majors Steve and Sheila Bradley.

Welcome to Everwood, Colorado
Twenty men of the Odgen Adult Rehabilitation Program became actors and residents of Everwood for the day. The weekly series of “Everwood” is shot just down the street from the ARP building. When a call went out for extras, Major Dallas Pedersen, commanding officer, volunteered “his men.” The episode featured the landing of space aliens, and people from miles around came to capture a glimpse of “little green men” from space; the ARP extras were dressed as aliens, hippies, tourists and merchants.

Caring for those in the military
During the past two months, The Salvation Army has handed out around 75,000 items to the 27,000 Marines and Navy troops that have passed through March Air Reserve Base. Some of the items include: water, pens, paper, Bibles, doughnuts, toothpaste and snack items. Moreno Valley Corps Officer Captain Martin Cooper said: “Over the past six weeks I’ve come in contact with many fine people who have been humble, caring, loving and great examples of what’s good about America. These people love this country and the least we can do is give them a bottle of water—a pat on the back—and a prayer. We are the last non-military people they have contact with before going off to war.”
