ALPHA COURSE

Majors Cliff and Sue Jones of the Coos Bay Corps (Oregon) recently had twenty-five people sign up for the new ALPHA course. A balance of corps members and unchurched individuals are attending, making for a pleasant anticipation of evangelistic effort for Christ.

ON RETREAT

Eighty people attended the San Francisco Yerba Buena Asian American Corps’ third annual retreat (Captains Ron and Keilah Toy, corps officers) and those present were “blessed with the extent of God’s glory.”

ARTIST DEDICATES “FREEDOM” TO SA

World-renowned artist Cao Yong commemorated the anniversary of Sept. 11 with a painting called “Freedom,” which he dedicated to The Salvation Army. He presented one of the first prints to Lt. Colonel Alfred Van Cleef, So. California divisional commander. Proceeds from the sale of the prints will go to The Salvation Army. OFF TO CAMP

Twenty-nine men attended the San Bernardino Corps’ men’s camp recently. After returning, they shared during the holiness meeting how God had worked in different areas of their lives and how they had made new decisions to follow him, reports Corps Officer Major Jacqueline Fritz.

NEW GENERAL’S GUARD

Brittany Hammond was given her General’s Guard Award during a Sunday morning service at the Las Vegas, Nevada, corps. Corps officers Majors Neil and Kathie Timpson report she completed all requirements with a satisfactory rating of 100%.

ALASKA’S “CULTURAL TREASURES”

The September 2002 Alaska magazine reported that 12 elders from across Southeast Alaska were named by the Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes as “Living Cultural Treasures.” Eight of the 12 are Salvation Army senior soldiers or Home League members: Isabella Brady (Sitka); Elizabeth Denny (Saxman); Fannie Hanlon-Ermaloff, Clara Peratrovich (Klawock); Cyril W. George Sr. (Juneau); Clarence M. Jackson (Kake); Charles Jimmie Sr. (Haines) and Martha Nelson (Angoon).

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP CONCERT

The Chris Mallett Scholarship Concert, held at the Torrance Corps, Calif., was attended by 230 and raised $1,001. The scholarship enables a junior musician to receive a full scholarship to the Chris Mallett School of Music. The recipient will be announced in May. Donations for the scholarship are still being accepted.
