Tacoma adds to rolls
On Easter Sunday, Tacoma, Wash., Citadel Corps Officers Majors Wes and Ruth Sundin welcomed new senior soldiers Douglas and Denise Mitchell, and Shilo and Kenneth Rohre, as well as junior soldiers Douglas Mitchell, Jr., Curtis Mitchell, and Samantha Mallett. “This is a delightful and growing corps,” said Sundin. “It is truly a welcoming center.”

Portland enrolls and commissions
Cascade Divisional Commander Major Donald Hostettler recently enrolled senior soldiers Tyler McCaw, Garland and Lily Raxter, Bill Rusk, and John and Genette Stout; junior soldiers Jaliann Blix and DeDe Thomas; and adherents Scott Balash and Marty Simmons, at the Portland Tabernacle Corps. He also commissioned local officers Lauralee Balash (asst. Home League secretary), Cindy Crowell (Young People’s Sgt. Major), Lily Raxter (Home League chaplain) and Lt. John Waterton (corps treasurer). Lt. Raymond and Major Nancy Dihle are corps officers.

Army presence grows on Twitter
The Salvation Army uses the popular social networking site Twitter (www.twitter.com) that allows users to post 140 character updates and follow the updates of others with similar interests. Public officials, celebrities, corporations, non-profits and individuals all over the world use Twitter to communicate with their supporters, friends and colleagues. Twitter is a free service that has grown about 30 percent each month of 2009. San Diego ARC hosts open house
The San Diego Adult Rehabilitation Center hosted an open house for community leaders who deal with people suffering from substance abuse. Invitations were extended to probation and parole officers, social service workers, university and college officials, drug court judges, local government officials and the media. More than 70 people, including Salvation Army officers, advisory board and advisory council, and women’s auxiliary members attended. Captains Grady and Julie Brown welcomed the guests, who toured the residence, the work therapy/donation recycling warehouse and the family store.

Salinas Kid’s Café
Local artist Traci Read brought the deep ocean to life on the walls of Kid’s Café at The Salvation Army in Salinas, Calif., reported Corps Officer Captain Philip Smith. Children from this after school program will be adding their creative touches to the mural. “Traci was assisted by the Army during a tough time in her life, and has found it important to give back to the community,” Smith stated.

Reed earns degree
Major John Reed, Southern Calif. Division secretary for business, recently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. Congratulations, Major!
