Outstanding partners

Recently, The Salvation Army’s Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division honored outstanding partners in community service at an awards luncheon.

Chai Chaowasaree, owner of Chai’s Island Bistro, was honored as outstanding volunteer of the year for his extraordinary efforts to mobilize the islands’ top chefs to raise relief funds for Hurricane Katrina.

Outstanding community partner awards were given to Central Pacific Bank, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, and Starbucks Hawaii for their commitment to change and improving lives through Salvation Army programs.

Also honored was Claire Woods, retired executive director of the Army’s Family Treatment Services, for 24 years of dedicated service.

Brocksieck honored for service

Kevin Brocksieck, director of public relations for The Salvation Army in El Paso County, Colorado, recently received the annual Service to Mankind Award by the High Noon Sertoma Club.

This award is presented to a non-Sertoman who has exhibited extraordinary service to their community and worked to improve the lives of others.

Brocksieck has dedicated two decades to volunteer service and work in the non-profit sector, mostly with the Army. His name has now been submitted for Sertoma’s national honors, to be awarded later this year.

Kevin’s father, Lt. Colonel Harry Brocksieck, flew in for the ceremony from Chicago where he is the Central Territory’s secretary for Personnel.

Majors Don and Ronda Gilger serve as El Paso County coordinators.

Tucson’s Rodeo Parade

The Salvation Army was well represented in the recent annual Tucson Rodeo Parade. Sitting in the wagon were Majors Peter and Estelle Clack, Tucson Temple corps officers; Major Anna Wilson, Tucson Amphi associate corps officer; and Corps Sergeant-Major Tim Popp.

Northwest stays warm

This winter, the Army’s Northwest Division in Seattle, Washington was called to pick up several thousand new donated coats collected through the Warm 106.9 (KRWM FM) Coats for Kids drive. Community generosity was so great it took two vans and a moving truck to carry all the coats! The coats were distributed to Salvation Army centers so that no child who comes through The Salvation Army will go without a new, warm coat.

Northwest divisional leaders are Lt. Colonels Harold and Joann Brodin; the divisional youth leaders are Captains Robert and Amanda Reardon.
