First Lady visits Army relief center

First Lady Laura Bush visited Yankie Stadium, home of The Salvation Army disaster recovery center in Biloxi, Miss., recently where she served disaster survivors a lunch prepared by the Southern Baptist Convention volunteer staff. With Mrs. Bush were Tricia Lott, wife of Senator Trent Lott and the First Lady of Mississippi, Marsha Barbour.

Accompanied by Captain Zach Bell of The Salvation Army, Mrs. Bush was very gracious to disaster survivors and volunteers while touring the site. She took the time to listen, shake hands, and provided many individuals with photo opportunities of herself with their family and friends.

Bell briefed the first lady on the services being provided by The Salvation Army at the center, which include social service registration for long-term recovery, water, ice, and family care packages. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served daily. Although the visit was brief, the first Lady took time to provide opportunities for a statement and a question and answer period in front of one of The Salvation Army Disaster Services trailers.
