San Diego ARC Fashion Show

When the San Diego ARC presented its first-ever fashion show, “Christmas at Sally’s,” both the clothing and some of the models were getting a second chance at life.

Among the models was Caroline Harryman and her three children, with whom she was reunited this holiday after graduating from the rehabilitation program. “For me, appearing in the fashion show is giving something back to The Salvation Army,” the recovering alcoholic said. “They gave me my life back.”

The unusual show, held at The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Vista, featured clothing culled from the ARC’s second-hand chic collection. A wide array of fabulous fashion finds, including many with designer labels, were modeled by women, children and men. The festive evening also featured a special boutique section, replete with choice gift items and antique furniture, music by a Salvation Army band, and refreshments.

Proceeds from store sales fund the San Diego Adult Rehabilitation Center’s 125-bed live-in substance abuse and work training program.

“The people in recovery, like the clothes, get a second chance,” said Major Don Mowery, San Diego ARC administrator. “Bargains for thrifty shoppers, new life for others–it’s a good deal for all.”
