In response to a call for help by The Salvation Army Booth Memorial Youth & Family Services in Anchorage, the employees of the neighborhood Sam’s Club came to the rescue by providing a donation of over 800 diapers for the Maternity Outpatient Program. The program served close to 600 women and their families last year. Services include parenting and childbirth education classes. Diapers, maternity and baby clothes and baby food are also distributed, as supplies are available.

Patti St. John, a Sam’s Club Team Leader, organized a car wash in the parking lot of the store. Patti and several other employees visited Booth on Monday to deliver the diapers purchased with the proceeds from the event. During their visit, Patti indicated that additional fundraisers are planned in order to provide Booth with the remainder of the diapers that will be needed throughout the year.

The high level of volunteerism and interest in community activities demonstrated by Sam’s Club employees is strongly encouraged by the corporation. For every 15 hours of volunteer service given by a Sam’s Club employee, the store issues a check for $100 to the charitable organization. The Alaska Division is fortunate to have such a strong commitment of support from both Sam’s Club and its dedicated employees.
