“Saved to Save: Towards a Salvationist Ecclesiology for the 21st Century” is the theme of the Western Territory’s first Theology and Ethics Symposium to be held May 5-9, 2003 at Crestmont College.

Patterned after The Salvation Army’s first International Theology and Ethics Symposium held in Canada in 2001, it is inspired by that group’s recommendation that similar events be held on regional and territorial levels. Much like the International Symposium, this event will be an opportunity for biblical and critical dialogue on issues central to the identity and mission of The Salvation Army but with a focus on the unique context of the U.S. West.

Twenty-four Salvationists from across the territory have accepted the invitation to participate and have been preparing formal papers and responses on topics related to the past, present and future of The Salvation Army in the Western United States. Dr. James Read, executive director of The Salvation Army Ethics Centre in Winnipeg, Canada is both the keynote speaker and discussion moderator.
