Commissioning set for June 13-14 at Pasadena’s Church of the Nazarene

THE FIRST CHURCH of the Nazarene, Pasadena is the venue for 2003 Commissioning.


Territorial and Crestmont leaders have announced significant changes to this year’s commissioning schedule of events, set for June 13 and 14, including plans to conduct the commissioning and ordination meeting on Saturday afternoon, in contrast to the traditional Sunday placement of past years.

“We have moved in a positive new direction,” said Crestmont College President and Principal Lt. Colonel Raymond Peacock. “We will celebrate the ordination and commissioning on Saturday and officers, soldiers, cadets and families will worship together on Sunday in local corps. By filling every seat Saturday and Sunday, Salvationists and friends will bless God.”

A new venue will also be used for the majority of 2003 Commissioning events. While the Friday Commencement exercises and parents’ banquet will still be held on the beautiful Crestmont campus, Saturday’s activities will be conducted at First Church of the Nazarene, Pasadena (Paz Naz) facilities.

Saturday’s schedule of events includes the Territorial Singing Company competition and workshops based around the West’s six strategic priorities at 9:30 a.m., commissioning and ordination for the Believers Session of cadets at 2:00 p.m., and a celebration of appointments at 6:00 p.m..

The Sierra Del Mar divisional band will be the duty band for the weekend, and gospel arts groups from around the territory will participate in the Saturday evening celebration. There will be no public commissioning meetings on Sunday, so that Salvationists and friends traveling to the area for the weekend may take the opportunity to worship at a local Southern California corps.

Additional and more specific information will be shared in future New Frontier reports. However, it’s not too early for Western Salvationists and friends to begin praying for these activities, and to make plans to attend what are certain to be “holy days of heavenly praise”!
