Cascade young adults discover truth at retreat

YOUTH FROM THROUGHOUT the division were encouraged and inspired at Cascade’s young adult retreat


Laughter. Singing. Rapping. More laughing (at the DYS rapping). Fellowshipping. Playing. Sleeping. And above all…praising!
With a theme of “Truth” at the Cascade Division young adult retreat, God undoubtedly had much to teach us, and we had much to praise him for.

With more than 30 young adults in attendance, special guests Captains Kyle and Lisa Smith preached truth to our souls throughout the weekend. The three main sessions focused on the themes of “For Him,” “For Them,” and “For Life.” Each session challenged us towards a deeper walk with Christ, a more passionate service to others, and a fixed gaze on eternity in all that we do. Captain Lisa Smith led us in praise and worship, with a “local” worship team made up of soldiers from Gresham, Medford, and Portland Moore Street.

Held at the Eagle Crest Resort near Bend, Oregon, we enjoyed snow on the ground, yet the beauty of the sunshine all weekend. Free time activities included group games, shopping, talking, and deepening relationships with other young adults from the division.

Captain John Van Cleef, divisional youth and candidates’ secretary, left us with the simple, yet profound challenge from Revelation: “Follow the Lamb.” And as the weekend came to a close, young adults piling back into cars and vans to return home, that’s exactly what we brought back with us…the Lamb, and the mighty power of his truth.
