Busby announces Rader Scholarship

The Commissioner’s Conference has decided to establish a Paul and Kay Rader Scholarship in each territory, designed to recruit Salvationist minority students who are USA citizens, who apply to Christian colleges.

“Commissioner Rader and I are delighted and deeply honored to have our names associated with the establishing of a scholarship fund that will help to open the door of educational opportunity at Christian colleges to Salvationist minority students across America,” said General Paul Rader (R).

“The cost of a Christian college education is high and, for some, prohibitive. Christian liberal arts institutions are dedicated to preparing students for a lifetime of learning, leadership and service to their communities and the cause of Christ. They can have a vital role in equipping Salvationists for participation in the Army’s mission. Few investments can be as rewarding as having a part in the intellectual growth and spiritual development of leaders for tomorrow who represent minority communities in our land.”

The following criteria have been approved, with application procedures to be at territorial implementation:

1. The scholarship amount will be up to $7,500 per year based on need.

2. The student applying for the scholarship will be required to make a commitment to serve the Lord through his or her profession as an officer or local officer in The Salvation Army.

3. The scholarship will be awarded only to USA Salvationist minority students applying to a Christian college.
