Booth University College announces next president

Colonel Glen Shepherd, chairperson of the Booth University College Board of Trustees, introduced Dr. Marjory Kerr as the fifth resident of the institution based in Winnipeg, Canada, effective July 1.

Kerr—who succeeds Dr. Donald Burke who has served as president since 2006—holds a doctorate in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Waterloo and is a registered psychologist in Ontario. Since August 2013, she has served as vice president academic and dean at Booth University College. During this time, Kerr provided leadership for the academic programs of the institution. She facilitated the development of the current Strategic Plan “Vision 2020: The Road to Booth University”and is leading the development and implementation of the Strategic Enrolment Plan.

Her prior experience as a consulting psychologist focused on the identification and development of organizational talent in public, private and not-for-profit/NGO settings. She has led numerous global projects and is an experienced facilitator and speaker at workshops and conferences.

“The core of our mission is the integration of Christian faith, rigorous scholarship and a passion for service,” Kerr said. “For 30-plus years Booth students, graduates, faculty and staff have embodied these qualities in Winnipeg and beyond. We strive always to keep them at the center of who we are, what we do and how we do it. I am excited for Booth’s future and look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students and the community as we continue to expand programs and broaden partnerships that will enable us in new ways to deliver on our promise, Education for a Better World.”

A lifelong member of The Salvation Army,. Kerr has been involved in leadership in congregational and organizational contexts for many years. From 2001 to 2007 she was a member of the Board of Trustees of Booth University College, serving as chairperson of the board from 2004 to 2007. She continues to serve on territorial committees and task forces and is a member The Salvation Army Ethics Centre Board.
