Bells formally installed in New Zealand

This summer, Territorial Commander Commissioner Garth McKenzie installed Lt. Colonels Don and Debi Bell as chief secretary and territorial secretary for women’s ministries, respectively, for the New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga Territory. Most recently the Bells served the U.S. Western Territory in these roles.

The Sunday evening meeting at the Wellington City Corps attracted Salvationists from the Wellington metropolitan area as well as leaders of the Army’s work in the four New Zealand divisions, Fiji and Tonga. The Government House and the U.S. Embassy sent greetings to the Bells.

The meeting included a Maori welcome segment; Maori with English translation was provided on PowerPoint for the haka powhiri/mihi. The Bells received some essential Kiwiana, including gumboots, Pineapple Lumps and Vegemite.

In his remarks, Lt. Colonel Don Bell said, “We’re here to listen, learn and lead.” He urged all Salvationists to play their part in growing The Salvation Army by extending their influence into the community. “People are struggling out there! Listen to the Lord [for the name of] someone he’d like you to talk to about Jesus.”
