Bell Shelter women—transformed
The Salvation Army Bell Outpost Women of Transformation hosted their first prayer breakfast on Sept. 25, 2010, at the shelter in Bell, Calif. This will be an annual event.

More than 240 guests attended; all enjoyed the meal and fellowship. Both the breakfast and prayer time supported Bell Shelter’s women’s ministry.

During the event, each table received a specific group to pray for, including the military, social services, Salvation Army leaders, ministry, and homeless, among others.

Associate Los Angeles Area Commander Major Cindy Dickinson was the featured speaker.

The morning included soldier testimonies, a performance by the Outpost Praise Dance Team and music by the Outpost Women’s Choir.

Homeless facilities expand
Thanks to generous donations from the California Manufactured Housing Institute (DMHI) Foundation, Bell Shelter celebrated the grand opening of its 10th and final manufactured home. The additional facility will house six homeless individuals.

Southern California divisional leaders, Lt. Colonels Victor and Rose-Marie Leslie, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony this past summer, along with LaRae Neal, Bell Shelter executive director.

The program included testimonies of two residents—part of the Step Up for Veterans Program—who recounted their experiences in transitioning from a war zone back into society. Sharon Minter and James Frazier shared how shelter programs helped them overcome obstacles in their lives.

Majors Michael and Cindy Dickinson are Los Angeles area commanders.
