Alaska Salvation Army prepares for national toy drive with Walmart stores

Toy Drive LogoThe Salvation Army in Alaska is ready for the Nov. 9 toy drive event taking place at several Walmart stores. Similar events are taking place at Walmart stores nationwide, as The Salvation Army and Walmart join forces to provide toys to children in need during the holidays. Participating Alaska Walmart stores include Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla and Fairbanks.

“Thousands of Anchorage children and families seek Christmas assistance every year,” said Captain Peter Pemberton, Alaska Divisional Secretary for Business. “Last year, the public’s generosity helped The Salvation Army provide over 22,000 Alaskan children with Christmas toys they would not receive otherwise.”

Walmart and The Salvation Army have collaborated for more than 30 years to meet local community needs. Supporters like Walmart help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each year through a range of social services, which help families overcome poverty.

“We believe that no child should have to go empty-handed, especially during the holidays,” said Brad Spitz, Walmart Market Manager in Alaska. “Walmart is teaming up with the Salvation Army once again to make sure Alaskan children have a toy to unwrap and get to truly experience the season of giving.”

For those unable to participate in-store on Nov. 9, The Salvation Army in Alaska has provided a searchable online registry comprising all the items needed; each item requires just one click to purchase.

All toys given to The Salvation Army at the toy drive event will remain in local communities and will help The Salvation Army provide Christmas assistance to children and families in the most need this holiday season.
