Alaska recognizes first ever “Partner in Mission”

Senator recognized for his support of Clitheroe Center STU

Alaska state senator and rehabilitation advocate Johnny Ellis has been instrumental—from its inception—in the development of Anchorage’s Salvation Army Clitheroe Center Specialized Treatment Unit, which serves the needs of chronic public inebriates.

On a recent trip to Alaska, Territorial Commander Commissioner Philip Swyers presented Ellis with The Salvation Army’s Partners in Mission Award—newly implemented throughout the territory—to recognize and honor his leadership in spearheading the project.

As a senior legislator, Ellis and his staff worked nearly two years to bring the project to reality, determined to address this issue that was taking a toll on Alaskans both in the number of deaths on the streets of Anchorage, as well as the economic costs associated with the growing problem.

Upon receiving the award, Ellis said: “It is an honor and a privilege to serve, and I thank The Salvation Army for their dedication. I look forward to working together with them in the future.”
