Territorial leaders help celebrate Clovis Corps’ 85th anniversary.

The first weekend in October, The Salvation Army in Clovis, New Mexico marked the 85th anniversary of the founding of the corps. Present at the festivities were Commissioners Philip and Patricia Swyers, territorial leaders, along with Lt. Colonels Don and Jan Mowery, Southwest divisional leaders.

Events began with the Annual Advisory Board Dinner at the Civic Center. The successful turnout included civic leaders, board members, soldiers and others from surrounding corps. Captains Kevin and Tammy Ray, Clovis corps officers, presented a panoramic history of the corps and the personalities who make up that history, including four generations of Captain Tammy Ray’s family.

Saturday, the Clovis Corps celebrated the community and its residents with an open barbeque, games, free drawings and entertainment. Over 250 neighbors, thrift store customers, corps members and friends of The Salvation Army enjoyed the wonderful Texas barbeque. The Texas Men’s Fellowship from The Salvation Army Corps in Lubbock, Texas, provided the lunch.

The grand finale was the Sunday holiness meeting. The Holy Spirit was present as Swyers enrolled six junior soldiers, four senior soldiers and two adherents. The Commissioner encouraged each new member to continue “the legacy of service” that has been expressed over the last 85 years, to help carry on the work of the Army in Clovis, and most importantly to testify to the saving power of Jesus Christ in their lives.
