Many times, especially throughout the New Testament, it is made clear what is expected of us as we take up our cross and follow God. In the Gospels, Jesus meets the spiritual and physical needs of people through the use of his parables. He takes the heavenly conundrum and makes it humanly clear, for those who will not only listen, but hear.

Psalm 116:6 / The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.

I Corinthians 14:33 / For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace.

John 14:23 / Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

Psalm 19:7 / The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

1 Timothy 6:6-7 / But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.

John 6:35 / Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

Matthew 22:37 / And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Micah 6:8 / He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Psalm 131:1-2 / O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Matthew 6:30-33 / But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
